Volkswagen Routan is a minivan that was produced by Volkswagen from 2008 to 2014. It was based on the Chrysler RT platform and was manufactured in Chrysler's Windsor, Ontario, plant. The Routan was Volkswagen's first and only minivan, and it was marketed as a premium alternative to the Dodge Grand Caravan and Chrysler Town & Country.
The Volkswagen Routan was available in three trim levels: S, SE, and SEL. The S trim was the base model, while the SE and SEL trims offered more features and amenities. All models were powered by a 3.6-liter V6 engine that produced 283 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. The engine was mated to a six-speed automatic transmission, and front-wheel drive was standard.
The Volkswagen Routan was praised for its comfortable ride, spacious interior, and user-friendly features. It offered seating for up to seven passengers and had a maximum cargo capacity of 144.4 cubic feet. Standard features included a six-speaker audio system, a rearview camera, and tri-zone automatic climate control. Optional features included a rear-seat entertainment system, a navigation system, and a power liftgate.
